What happened:

The lich told the party to flee the tomb. Burton tries to tell the lich that coming into this room was an accident. The lich is unmoved. Nyx tries to persuade the lich that they are just here to look at the items on the pedestals. The lich's voice becomes melancholy as he again tells them to leave. Tink tries to explain that they are here for exploration. The lich becomes hostile again and goes to attack. The Zel and Grombo use their held actions to attack. The lich becomes enraged and emits a hideous shriek. The whole party becomes frightened and passes out. While they are out, the lich siphons their souls and reduces their maximum hit points.

The party awakens in a pitch black room and they are separated. Vogren was killed and not with them. Nyx and Zel are able to find the doors to the room and everyone escapes back into the library from before. The party tries to decide what the next step is. Everyone uses all their available healing potions. And Tink does a Mass Healing Word to the whole group.

The group decides to head back to the lich for a second time. They buff each other as much as possible before heading in. Grombo rages and attacks with his javelins, doing no damage to the lich. Zel throws her dagger of secrets at the lich. The lich attacks Zel twice leaving her down and the lich siphons her soul again (dropping her max hit points again).

Tink heals Zel as a bonus and then attempts to Banish the lich, but it teleports aways just before. Tink action surges and does Banishment again, but the lich saves. Tink uses inspiration to make the lich re-roll and it saves again.

Nyx rages and attacks with Eldritch Blast. And Burton tries to persuade the lich again, but fails. Grombo runs up to grapple the lich, but it cast invisibility on itself. Even with the lich invisible, Grombo is able to grapple and pin it. Zel bloodied and angry attacks the lich. The lich, still invisible, then teleports away again and attacks Burton twice.

Tink casts Spirit Guardians. Nyx drops her rage and uses her Link to Vecna to cast "See Invisibility". She then tells everyone where the lich is. Burton turns and hits the lich with his flame sword. Grombo hits the lich. Then he grapples and pins it again. Zel casts Magic Circle to attempt to keep the lich from teleporting away.

Tink's Spirit Guardians do damage. The lich attempts to teleport and saves, so he is able to teleport away. The lich casts a hold spell on Tink, which paralyzes him and his spirit guardians. Nyx hexes the lich and hits it with Eldritch Blast, but the lich holds concentration on Tink.

Burton does a Mass Heal to the whole party. Grombo hits (3 times, one a crit) with his Warhammer, but again the lich holds concentration on Tink. Zel hits the lich, but the lich is still able to hold concentration on Tink.

The lich hits Grombo twice and emits another hideous shriek. Tink and Burton are still in the magic circle protected from being frightened. Grombo is raging and can not be frightened. Nyx and Zel are frightened and pass out. The lich again siphons her soul. Zel immediately dies and her body disappears and her soul is sucked into the lich's soul gem eyes.

Tink is still paralyzed as his friend's soul is sucked away. Burton does a mass heal to everyone who is left. The he runs up and attacks the lich with his flame sword. Burton destroys the lich. It's body turns to dust and the two gems roll on to the floor.

Tink is no longer paralyzed and runs up grabbing the gems. He remembers his teachings from Veylen about liches. He destroys the soul gem and Zel's body re-forms alive. Tink then transfers some of his own life into Zel to heal her. The other gemstone is destroyed and Vogren is saved as well.

Grombo finds two keys in the lich's dust, platinum one and a copper one. Grombo uses the platinum one to open the platinum door behind the throne. Inside the party finds a vault full of treasures and the sixth piece of the rod. Nyx takes the rod, she knows instinctively that the seventh piece is located somewhere inside a casino called the Red Belvedere in Avernus. The party divides up the gems and Grombo takes all the gold since they are headed to a casino.

The party escapes the tomb through another door in the back of the vault. They return the three missing items to Laysa. She thanks the party and she pays them with the gemstones she promised. She is excited to use the back entrance to the tomb to explore.

The party heads back to Sigil.
